Colt Defender
Colt Defender Mark I was an American multi-barreled shotgun intended for law enforcement or military use, completed in 1967. The shotgun was essentially a volley gun with eight single-shot barrels — each chambered for the 20-gauge 3-inch magnum shell — arranged in a octagonal fashion around the central axis, and could fire eight individual times like a semi-automatic action without the complexity of actually being a semi-automatic firearm. The action ran on a revolver-like rotating striker mechanism. The gun had a detachable buttstock and a pistol grip with a double-action trigger, and had a separate foregrip up front for instinctive shooting.
The shotgun was extremely simple to operate and very robust. The designer, Robert Hillberg, thoroughly tested the weapon before seeking out a manufacturer. The design proved to be so correct, that only a couple of minor changes were made for manufacturing. When Colt Industries was contacted, they showed considerable interest in producing the weapon, but before committing to full production they insisted on a market survey to see if there was an adequate market for the gun. Colt demonstrated the weapon to a number of departments, and all who saw it were impressed with its compactness, volume of fire and reliability. However, the national recession at that time did not allow any adoption of the weapon and by 1971 the project was over.
The weapon was composed of an aluminum alloy receiver with steel inserts and was covered in an epoxy paint finish. The final version of the weapon was available in 4 variants. The first variant was a simplified one, with no special features. The second variant incorporated a barrel selector on the rotating striker on the hammer that allowed the shooter to select any one of the eight barrels, meaning that the weapon could be loaded with a variety of ammunition and the shooter could choose the most appropriate round for the given situation. The third variant contained a receptacle for a tear gas canister among the barrels, and pressing the trigger on the foregrip allowed the shooter to spray the target with tear gas, giving him a non-lethal option. The fourth and final variant had both the barrel selector and the tear gas canister.

What I like about the Colt Defender. I like how the Colt Defender fits in my hand. It’s not to heavy or to light. What I don’t like is, I’ve purchased three different pellets/BB’s .177 caliber 4.5mm each was ordered by size recommended in papers received with pistol. But none of them will cycle through from the loading magazine for the pistol. So the most important thing I don’t like about the Colt Defender is so far I haven’t been able to sight in the pistol which is why I purchased the pistol in the first place.

I love how it’s medal and it has a safety on it just in case

There isn’t a lot of features but I sort of like that. There’s NO blow back, the hammer won’t cock, but this pistol is easy to shoot and looks good. All that’s required is load co2, load steel BB’s, switch the safety off, point and pull the trigger. There’s no cocking the hammer, which is fixed, the slide is fixed and there’s no ejection port, which has a silver sticker to give the appearance of the real deal. The pistol shoots well, looks good, is all metal and is compact. It’s a great value for the money. if you’re not into all the bells and whistles and want something easy to deal with this is it.

This gun is heavy and seems to be made well but it jammed and does not operate after a month. Also the BB’s that did fire have a strange tragectory and are not accurate with the sights. I purchased this BB Gun as the Description makes you think that it can also fires pellets but it is only a BB Gun.

As long as it doesn’t jam it fires, but not accurately. Fun to shoot around with. But that’s about it

Works very well. I had several different ones and this is the best. Realistic weight, responsive, and reliable. I am a Veteran and it feels like a real 🔫.

The bb clip constantly jams. Gun will not shoot a 16 shot, 6 inch group, at 16 feet with a dead rest. I have hunted for many years, I own many guns. Shooting is not fun when can’t hit the target.

I bought this BB gun to give me more opportunities to practice shooting a handgun. I have a safe place at home to practice. No range fees or ammo costs. It is not a tack driver but more than adequate for my practice needs. All metal and feels like a real pistol.

Nicely made pistol until you get to the pistol grip stock that retracts to load new Co2 and bbs, then “clicks” back in place after loading. It just seems like over time that “click” will start to wear down, then the pistol grips won’t stay securely in place w/o Velcro or tape. Velcro is what I used to secure a similar pistol that has the same feature.
